A look forward to 2008
Germany
Germany is fast becoming the next European property investment hotspot. There has always been huge potential in the German market, after all the GDP is on a par with the UK as one of the highest in Europe and the economy is the largest in Europe. Germany is also the world’s largest exporter and Berlin the third most popular tourist city in Europe. There has been massive recent foreign direct investment, huge investment in infrastructure by the German government and Germany is finally starting to recover economically from reunification. There is no doubt that now is a good time to invest in Germany when prices are still low and supply healthy.

France
France has long been a favourite destination for British property investors as it offers a great combination for lifestyle, convenience and capital growth. The leaseback scheme has been successfully running in France since 1976 and continues to hold appeal for the investor. In the scheme the French government refund the VAT to the investor while the property is leased back to the developer providing year round guaranteed rental income. It is often possible to combine this with a period of personal use making it a hugely attractive proposition especially if the property is in a ski resort, near a beach or on a golf course.
